Along the Maroni River, which marks the border between Suriname and French Guiana, boatman Boogie carries essential goods to remote Maroon and Indigenous communities. His journey reveals ways of life sustained by ancestral customs, songs, and obligations, yet increasingly threatened by climate disruption and gold mining. As his livelihood draws him into the same extractive economy that endangers the river, Monikondee becomes a layered reflection on complicity, resilience, and the uncertain currents connecting tradition and modern capitalism.
