Hanabi

Filmed over ten years in Japan, Hanabi traces the invisible afterlives of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Interwoven with Yoko Hayasuke’s Journal of a Radioactive Brain, Ana Vaz listens to communities learning to live with persistent radioactivity across Fukushima, Tokyo, and the Ogasawara Islands.

Blending documentary observation, ecological essay, and sensory experimentation, the film considers how catastrophe enters soil, memory, and everyday life, connecting distant territories through technologies whose consequences exceed national borders.
