Grand Opening & Premiere Screening

For over two decades, Cinemaissí has created a dedicated space for Latin American cinema in Finland, presenting arthouse films and works that engage critically with social, political, and cultural questions. Founded in 2005, we are the oldest Latin American film festival in the Nordic region.

Throughout our history, we have worked to expand the visibility of distinctive cinema in Finland while creating space for singular cinematic voices, formal experimentation, and perspectives that challenge conventional representations of Latin America in the Nordic region.

The evening will begin with the European premiere of the Guatemalan film Nosotros, directed by Joaquín Ruano.

This year, our Grand Opening also marks a new chapter in Cinemaissí’s history. For the first time, we will present The Pohjoismaissi Award, our festival’s first curatorial distinction. Conceived as a recognition of artistic vision and cinematic singularity, the award reflects our long-standing commitment to films that open new ways of seeing, thinking, and experiencing Latin America and its diasporas.

Following the screening, we will host a discussion with director Ruano and Florencia Quesada.
